The Difference Between Oil Based And Latex Paints

One of the biggest obstacles in painting your home is knowing which types of paints to choose. Basically there are only two types of paint to use inside your home; water based latex paints and oil based paints. The difference is pretty simple actually. For the most part you’ll want to use an oil-based paint for the doors, the trim, and high traffic areas - and the water based latex for the walls.

Poster, Print Or Painting. Where Are You Going To Put It?

If you are redesigning or decorating a room, or house, care has to be taken where your piece of art is to be displayed. Even if you have bought a picture on impulse there are a few tips that will not only enhance the picture but its surroundings.

As a good rule of thumb it is good to hang a picture so that its centre is roughly at eye level. If you have a grouping of pictures then also the centre of the group should be at approximate eye level.

Breaking Away From White Wall Paint

Paint is one of the most affordable and easiest ways to change a room. But choosing the right paint colors for your home can seem like an overwhelming task.

Paint, accessories, fabric, furniture, and flooring should all blend, so take a good look at the room you will be working on, preferably before you choose a paint color, and decide what will stay in the room, and what you may want to move out of the room.

How To Paint Paneling

One of the most common problems I see in homes is paneling. Faux wooden paneling found its heyday in the sixties and seventies, and has become the nightmare of the modern decorator.

In those days, wooden paneling was often put up in lieu of drywall because it was easier and cheaper. The problem with paneling is that it’s dark, dull, outdated, and difficult to replace.

Not everyone has the money or energy to take on the project of tearing out walls of old paneling and replacing them with drywall. It can be a financial and mental drain.

How To Read An Exterior Painting Quote

Many homeowners prefer to hire a professional to paint the outside of their home, which requires getting an exterior painting quote. There are almost as many ways to structure a quote as there are contractors to give you one, but several pieces of information should be in every quote you get. It is not unusual for different contractors to use different abbreviations or descriptions for their services, so you may find some parts on the estimate that you don’t quite understand.

An exterior painting quote should specify how the surface will be prepared, how the surrounding landscaping will be protected, what painting method will be used, what type of paint will be used, an estimate for the quantity of paint needed, and both start and finish dates. For each of these categories there should be an explanation of exactly what it means. For instance, what kind of surface preparation will be done? Will the contractor hand scrape, pressure wash, or some combination of the two? How will the workers clean up the mess? What measures will be taken to cover or protect landscaping such as bushes, shrubs, and flowers? If the quote does not include these kinds of details, ask the contractor to add them on in writing.

Exterior Painting Quote

Sometimes you will get a quote that lists a dollar amount for paint, as long as you select the type and quality of paint preferred by the contractor. You do not have to use their preferred paint if it is not of high enough quality, but you can probably expect to pay more for the contractor to use your preferred paint. Check the quote carefully to see if it specifies the estimated number of gallons that will be needed. If they run short, are there additional charges for additional paint? Be sure to specify that if there is any paint left over, the contractor will leave it with you.

Perhaps the most important thing to remember, though, is to ask about anything that does not seem familiar. It is better to ask in advance, no matter how silly it might seem to you, than to misunderstand something and have a problem at the end. Reading an exterior painting quote is not difficult if you take your time and be sure to fully understand everything in it.

Mexican Pottery And Pottery Painting

Mexican pottery has amazing quality and beauty. It is widely
sought after and has many different styles, colors, and shapes to
choose from. The age of the pottery makes a huge difference as
well. The modern pieces are very colorful and well made, but the
ancient pieces hold so much history and are some of the most
beautiful pieces of art ever made.

There are many different choices of Mexican pottery. The oldest
pieces have been around for thousands of years. You may look at
ancient pieces and think that they are made too complexly to be
genuinely from that long ago, but the civilization was very
advanced and they are authentic. There are often stories shown
on this pottery from pre Columbian times, and the designs are the
most unique.

What Color Should You Paint Your Walls?

Bold colors are back, according to Anne Krueger, editor of the HGTV.com decorating newsletter. Krueger discusses color trends in her article, “The Color of Things to Come.” Red and orange will continue to be popular, she says, and the popularity of brown is growing.

Other bold colors — cardinal red, carrot orange, egg yolk yellow, Lava lamp green — are also popular. Bold colors like these are in now, but they could be out in a few months. This brings you back to neutral colors and so-called “builder’s white.”

Exterior Painting - You Can Do That

Don’t under estimate your ability, grab a paint brush this summer and get out there and paint your house. Over the years I’ve been tempted to pay someone to do the job but after getting their estimate I decided real quick to do it myself.

If you have vinyl siding painting the windows, trim and doors will give you a chance to be creative. You can design a color scheme by using colors that complement your homes exterior siding.

Below I will give you some pointers on how to go your project.

Painting And Decorating Tips For The Changing Seasons

Seasonal redecorating isn’t a new concept by any means, so it is really no surprise that many families choose to do things like repaint and redecorate at the commencement of a new season. Sometimes this is done out of necessity like making the redecorating transition from winter to spring since the weather is significantly different and people may want to soften up the warm cozy winter décor to match the light airy feel of the new season or to let some of the indoor warmth out and some of the outdoor coolness in. Perhaps one of the easiest ways to change the décor in your home is with a fresh coat of paint and a few different accessories and furnishings. So here are some cool tips that you may find useful when decorating and painting your home for the transition to warmer seasons.

Painting A Room Can Be Soooo Much Fun

Have you ever gone into a paint store with colors in mind to paint the walls of a room in your home or office? Let’s say you wanted to paint it soft green to match the pretty throw pillows that you have on your couch. You get to the paint store and YIKES! You look at the swatches and there are so many variations of the color green. Your head starts to spin and now you can’t quite remember if it was a green with a touch of blue or a green with a touch of yellow.
